You don’t have to look too far from your lodging to spot some ‘hoppy’ Aussie wildlife. The Outback certainly has its fair share of kangaroos, but the variety of Queensland kangaroos is often a surprise to visitors. The Eastern Grey Kangaroo, seen around Longreach can live up to 25 years in the wild. They can grow pretty big too. A large adult male can be up to 1.6 metres tall and weigh 70 kilograms.
Being herbivores they favour grasses but will eat a range of plants, including in some cases, fungi! They prefer tucking into young green shoots rather than dry grass which is tricky for them to digest. Being nocturnal, it’s not uncommon to see them gathering at dusk to feed.
What could be more Aussie, than kicking back on your verandah watching the local wildlife!
